Psyllium husk is Agri-Farm product, cleaned, dried seed coat (epidermis) separated from the dried ripe seeds of Plantago ovata forks (family: Plantaginaceae) (USP Monographs: Plantago Husk, 2007).
The husk of Psyllium is the actual coating of mucilage around the seed. It is considered pure dietary fiber and used in human and animal foods, as well as human and veterinary medicines, as a fiber supplement. In its country of origin, Indian exporters of psyllium husk typically specify at least 7 different purity grades (99%, 98%, 95%, 90%, 85%, 80%, and 70%).
